A registered dietitian-nutritionist trained in Spain, I have achieved a senior specialist dietitian position in the NHS after several years of hard work and dedication. I am also a member of the NHS interview panel.

What does a registered dietitian nutritionist do in the NHS?

The National Health Service (NHS) is the UK 's public healthcare service. It provides a
a wide range of healthcare services where dietitians-nutritionists are included and
recognized.

 

The role of the dietitian-nutritionist is fully integrated into the medical team, and they will be responsible for a wide variety of aspects related to the patient's nutrition, including:

 

- Oral nutrition (nutrition support)

- Artificial nutrition (NG, NJ, PEG, TPN...)

- Community nutrition (Nutrition education)

- Highly specialized nutrition (pediatric nutrition, nutrition in critical care, oncology, renal, etc...)

Salary

The salary of a dietitian-nutritionist working for the NHS depends on their pay band, from more basic positions like Junior (around £31,000 per year ) to highly specialized and senior positions (over £100,000 per year ).
